No offence kids, but this moustache party has to end. I am all for charity and for creating buzz for charity and for no more prostate cancer. Of course I am. But I kind of have a theory about this furry phenomenon we call "Movember"... Care to hear it?

In one year, or maybe two, I see a new kind of Movember. Soon we, the moustache-less, will come to realize that this itchy, crumb-covered, problem can be prevented! I present you with the NEW Movember! A Movember where we donate money to KEEP you from growing a moustache!

It's A Trap!

Somebody set a booby-trap at work!WATCH OUT! Just because a trap is biodegradable, doesn't mean it is any less of a trap... Luckily I was the on-set safety inspector that day and I was able to direct everybody to walk around the trap. I am not sure people really appreciated how I saved their lives all day, but the important thing is that I certainly saved them.

Down The Road Again

A year ago I worked on a movie called Down The Road Again which is a sequel to a Canadian classic called Goin' Down The Road.

The most exciting thing is when movies come out in theatres! This is something we take for granted, but not all movies get theatrical release! I knew this one would. It just had to!

It is fall. Fall is apple time. Not to be confused with hammer time, apple time is a time when delicious apples are made readily available, and you can bake them into various tasty treats!

Please join me on this journey of turning a tree full of apples, into a pot full of apple sauce...

First, you gather the apples. While you are busy doing that, you might also consider picking up some of the rotten apples that have fallen on the ground, and chucking them at stationary objects, like trees. This makes them split apart with a great explosion! Then you peel 'em! And then you chop 'em and add stuff to 'em like water, sugar and cinnamon!Boil it all up and I'm sorry but there is no way to make this look appetizing. But it is delicious!

My cousin is getting married!

So, my other cousin/the bride's sister and I decided to take on the task/challenge of baking the wedding cake! Yes, we ARE crazy, thank you for asking. But we're doing it anyway!

This is going to be a three day process with the end result being showcased at the wedding THIS WEEKEND! Think we can do it? We're taking bets!

The Other Night

The other night I was booked on the 4pm flight home from New York. Sounds pretty standard. I got to the airport JUST before 3pm because traffic was awful and I was worried I'd miss check-in. I didn't. At the check-in I was informed that we would be delayed until 5:30pm because of weather. I looked out the window, it was still a beautiful day, so naturally, I was outraged.

By the time I got through security and to the gate we had been delayed until 7:30pm. Further outrage. I took to social media for some sympathy, and wasn't let down. Then, the uncertainty began...

Here is a series of words to illustrate the events that followed: announcement, anger, panic, cancelled, tornado, rain, frustration, eight-dollar-internet, lifesavers gummis, panic, and so on...

I got on the plane at 11:15pm, and by the time I got to my door it was 2am.

Here is a photo I took when our plane was rerouted back to another airport and then we didn't have a gate to land in so we landed in the middle of the runway and had to get on a bus to take us to customs...

Oh, Hay - Part One

Know what is awesome? Driving to a faraway land and not really knowing how you're going to manage to do a photo shoot in a golden field, but then asking a nice farmer lady and getting to shoot in the BEST FIELD EVER!

How do I know? Just a guess. Just kidding! We just did this! It was amazing! Behold! Our journey to the hay...

First we found the house, cute and farm-like! Then we asked the nice lady if we could use her field. How could she say no to four city folks who were clearly SUPER out of their element?!Then the ladies had to unhook the chain to let the photoshootmobile through...Then we found the hay! Look! Hay!Hay can be a little distracting, and before we started shooting there may have been an incident... An incident concerning trying to climb up on a bale of hay...
Did I succeed?

No. But stay tuned to see if I succeed AFTER the shoot!

Last winter I got to be part of something pretty special. A group of awesome people got together to make a movie that I know will be a huge hit! I haven't seen it yet but it was a laugh riot while we were filming!

The movie is called Servitude and it has a brilliant cast, a genius script and a general sense of awesomeness all around. This is simple math for a wicked movie result!

Servitude is so special that it is going to have multiple posters instead of just one! That is not only awesome for them, but it is awesome for me because I got to take the pictures on the posters! So there's this babe. Her name is Nicole Holness and she is the host of this show called MTV Live. More importantly, she's hilarious and rad, but MOST importantly, she's a babe!

This past Thursday was quite a crazy day. It was the day a photo I took ended up all over the place in a matter of hours! I have honestly never seen something spread so quickly, but I was pretty excited to see it show up in some pretty cool places. I figured I may as well put it on my own blog too! The Endings

Ladies and gentlemen I am proud to present... The Endings!
Back in February I posted a tease from The Endings, but now the project has officially launched, so I can say more things about it! I love saying more things!The Endings is a new photography book project adventure that I am embarking upon with my dear friend and favourite collaborator, Jessica Ennis. We are so incredibly excited about this project, but we need your help to make it happen!

Have you heard of Kickstarter? Kickstarter is this AWESOME website where people can post project ideas and then other people can read about their projects and become project backers! You may be asking, "are you really asking everybody you know to give you money right now?" and the answer is: SORT OF! The cool thing about putting your project on Kickstarter is that everybody who becomes a project backer gets a backer reward! And the more you pledge, the better the reward!

Oh man. Work is just better when there are doggies around. Am I right? Doggies? Yes! I met the best doggy. His name is Barkley and he is amazing. He lives by a lake in Northern Ontario and I love him. He also loves me.What a handsome boy he is! And he does dog stuff, so you know he's a dog! The following image is what I consider to be a dog doing "dog stuff".Barkley also has a loyal fan base. The photo below was taken by one of his biggest fans (after me, of course), Nick Kaz! Aww look how Barkley loves me! Or I guess you could say, aww look how Barkley is letting me love him? Yeah, that's probably more accurate...But the ultimate would have to be this incredible piece of cinematic genius created by the very talented filmmaker, Allison Barber. You'll be seeing big things from her. Dog things. She also wrote the score.

RED Remounted

On May 5th RED reopened! We had a party and it was fun and there was licorice and pie and I ate the pie and it was delicious! Oh man, I love pie.

Here are some photos of the exhibit! It is open until May 31st as part of the Contact Photography Festival and you can go see it at KWT Contemporary which is located at 624 Richmond St West in Toronto! Go check it out!

Remounting RED

Last September I curated some stuff! Long story short, that stuff is being remounted for the month of May for the Contact Photography Festival!

Oh To Be Young Again

Last month I got a chance to run WILD in Toronto's Gardiner Museum while doing a super fun shoot for Hardly Magazine! The shoot stars a young man by the name of Jonathan Keltz, who is one of the actors in the upcoming Disney movie: PROM! Oh wait, there is no exclamation mark there, it is just Prom, not PROM! Although I like the idea of movie titles being yelled at you.

The idea behind this shoot was that Jonathan and his prom date hide out in the museum after their prom is over and run amok until the sun comes up. Things started to heat up on set, but then we were all reminded that Hardly is a magazine for young people, so we got out the hose and everything was fine!To see the whole shoot with credits and to check out the awesomeness that is Hardly Magazine, click RIGHT HERE!

I appointed her myself!I know what you're thinking, you're thinking: "well that's a nice photo, but it is just too small! I want to see it larger than life size, because that's how big I like my pictures of girls' faces to be!" You're in luck! I found your lamp on the side of the road and took a picture of it so I could return it to you. If this is your owl lamp, don't worry, it is safe and sound, by the side of the road where I left it. Ignore those other lamps in the background. Those are trees.I took the liberty of naming your owls. From left to right: Stinky, Boron, and Stinky II aka Lefty, even though he is on the right.

I hope you will call and ask me where your lamp is. It shouldn't be sitting by the side of the road, it is spooking the squirrels and encouraging the weasels.

Happy Passover

Tonight is the first night of Passover, and you know what that means... Hundreds of people have spent the past three days (at least) preparing for HUGE family dinners! This year I got a chance to roll up my sleeves with my mom and grandmother, and take part in this tradition of preparation...

Now my grandmother is famous for her gefilte fish, so you really don't get to help with that too much, you get to be a sous chef, but that is just fine. That fish is a big responsibility and I certainly don't want to be the one to fudge it up.BAM! Fish done! Moving on! In the grand tradition of Passover food looking gross but tasting delicious, I had the task of preparing two kinds of charoset. The first kind is Morrocan, and has dates, red wine, walnuts, cinnamon and cloves.And the second is the more traditional apples, wine, walnuts, cinnamon and sugar. Yum.So to everybody celebrating Passover this year, I hope you have a good one! And to those missing out, just be thankful that you don't have to wait until 11pm to start your main course tonight!

My Oldest Friend

Since I recently introduced you to my newest friend, I felt it only fitting that I also introduce you to my very first friend.

Bear Bear and I met when I was 6 months old, and he has been by my side ever since. The other day I found some old film photos I shot of Bear Bear so I thought I'd share. Good ol' Bear was always such a good subject for lighting tests. What a loyal friend!And yes, I only have two friends, and yes, one is a lobster and one is a stuffed bear. Also, in case you are curious, this is what Bear Bear used to look like...

My Newest Friend

Yesterday I had a pretty amazing time taking photos of Chef Steve Gonzalez of Origin Restaurant and most recently of Top Chef Canada! Chef Steve and I went down to St. Lawrence Market for our shoot and ad-libbed for a while with amazing results!

The photos aren't allowed to be shown quite yet, but I CAN show you my new friend, Lenny (I just named him a second before I wrote this blog). Meet Lenny, the co-star of yesterday's photo shoot!Man, Lenny was a natural. He knew his angles, knew how to pose... A real gem in front of the camera.

Shortly after the shoot I got word that Lenny had passed away due to natural causes. The last people to see him said it was peaceful... And delicious.

Yo! Guess what! Movies are cool! A while back I got to work on this awesome movie with awesome people and I wanna tell you all about it! I haven't seen the movie yet, because it hasn't come out yet, but it was one of the most awesome movies to work on, and I can't wait to see it, and you should see it too! It is called Textuality!The movie has amazing actors who you will recognize, and though you can't see the crew while you watch the movie, I assure you that the crew was amazing as well!

I was one of two stills photographers on the movie so I was only on set for the last few days, but it was a real pleasure and I loved every minute of it! Here are some stills to get you very excited about the movie!So in conclusion, go see Textuality! In theatres April 22nd!

Self Inflicted Portrait

A week ago I had to find a photo to submit to somewhere and I started to panic. It needed to be a self-portrait and taken in studio, so my options were limited. I started going through old photos and found a folder with some photos that I thought were perfect! So I submitted the following image for consideration...The response was: "Don't you think that's a little morbid?"

I was quite surprised to hear this! Morbid? Nah, it's just me being bored and silly in the studio! But apparently the consensus was that this photo looked like I was dead and there was blood spilling out of my chest...

Well, the joke's on you everybody! That's not blood! It's a naked lady!

I Leave The House

This week is Fashion Week in Toronto, and that means there is cool stuff going on constantly! Sadly, this season's Fashion Week coincided with a very busy work time for me, so I was unable to catch all the shows and events I would have liked to catch. But. I DID go today!

Today I went to the Basch by Brandon show and, not surprisingly, it was STELLAR! I documented the whole day with Polaroid!So in conclusion, I am totally capable of leaving the house! Take that latent hermit-ism!

I Got Shot

For the past few months I have had a really wicked assistant. He found me because he needed to work for somebody for school, and I was like heck yes, let's do this! Anyway, long story short, he's a wicked assistant/friend and I hope he's reading this so he continues to work with me even after he graduates from school and has the world start handing him opportunities...

Also guess what! He's talented! Not that this is surprising, since he's so rad. He had an assignment to take a portrait of the photographer he's been working with, so we made it happen, one fine day.
Dude. I really think this is a cool portrait, and I'm not just saying that because I look all cool and bad-ass and stuff.

In conclusion, thanks for the awesome portrait and for being an awesome friend/assistant! And congratulations on your impending graduation and please don't leave me!

Marty Millionaire

Have you ever been to Marty Millionaire?
For those of you who haven't had to go in there, consider yourselves lucky. It's a scary, scary, amazing, scary, amazingly scary place.

I recently had to spend an hour in Marty Millionaire in order to pick out some props to rent for a photo shoot. Marty's is actually amazing. They have every single kind of weird prop and piece of furniture you can dream up... All packed into a three storey blue building that smells like your grandmother's basement on meth.

After about 10 minutes in there your throat starts to close up and you think you are going to die if you can't get outside. But you CAN'T get outside because it's a maze and you've forgotten how to retrace your steps!Advice: If you have to go in there... Take breadcrumbs.
